Cardamom Ginger Grapefruit

 

Grapefruit halves are fairly common at breakfast buffets and brunches, but a light sprinkle of the sugar-spice mixture makes grapefruit pleasantly extraordinary. Next, they are lovely broiled until lightly caramelized or just room temperature. Serve any extra spiced sugar at the table or triple the mixture to have it on hand throughout the week.

Ingredients

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom

Serving Size: 1 Person



 

Preparation Instructions

Wash and dry the grapefruit.

Gently zest off a bit of the peel on the grapefruit with a microplane. This is optional, but adds a bit more grapefruit flavor. Cut the grapefruit in half through the middle between the stems.

Toss together the sugar, ginger, and cardamom. Sprinkle lightly on the open halves. Slice gently alongside the membranes to help loosen the segments. Serve cold or place in the broiler for 3-6 minutes until the top is lightly caramelized. Either way, serve it in a bowl in order to drink any juices that come off during the process.
