Kahlua Caramelized Pecan Brie

This little appetizer is easier than it sounds as you make a quick caramelized pecans with a bit of kahlua that you dump on top of a hunk of brie. I usually do a small round brie, but a wedge works too. Serve it with your favorite crackers or thin French bread toasts. A garnish of sage and dried cranberries would be a lovely addition.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pecan, crumbled into pieces
  • 4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup kahlua, or more as desired ;-)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 brie cheese, round or wedge, about 8 ounces, plus or minus

Serving Size: 6 People

Preparation Instructions

Place the pecans in a skillet over medium heat. Once the pan feels hot, add the butter, swirl and toss with the nuts. When the butter appears mostly absorbed into the nuts, pour in the maple syrup. Shake the pan and toss the nuts to keep them from burning. If it feels too hot, reduce the heat to low. Once the maple syrup seems mostly absorbed add the kahlua. Simmer up until the alcohol has cooked off, about 3-5 minutes. Pour the hot nuts and any residual liquid over the brie.

Serve while the nuts are still hot, although, it is delicious at room temperature as well. Serve with crackers or French bread toasts.
