from Hamburgers with Wedge Salads and Grilled Corn, the Week of September 21, 2014.

Classic all-American meal. The best time to enjoy them is the end of summer when you still long to barbeque and the tomatoes are flavorful and juicy.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ground beef, higher fat is best
  • 1 pinch salt, or more if needed
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 1 tomato, cut into slices
  • 1 onion, sweet, cut into thin slices
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, optional
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, optional
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup, optional
  • 2 whole wheat buns, (freeze leftover buns)

Serving Size: 2 People

Preparation Instructions

Divide the ground beef in half and shape into flat patties- not too thick, at least 1/2 inch wider in diameter than the hamburger bun. Season each side with salt and pepper.

Heat a barbegue over medium-high heat. Place the patties on and grill for 4-6 minutes on each side until they have nice grill marks and just barely firm to the touch. A little softer for medium and a touch harder for well-done.

Halfway through cooking the hamburgers add the buns to the grill and toast lightly for a couple minutes.

Dress the buns and prepare them with any of the following the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayonnaise, mustard and/or ketchup.

Remove the hamburgers from the grill and place in the center of your decorated buns.
