Shiso Noodles

Shiso is an herb from Japan that is becoming just a bit more popular at Farmers Markets or Asian Markets. If you cannot find it, Thai or regular basil are scrumptious substitutes. Soba or rice noodles work well, but if you cannot find those try a whole grain spaghetti, broken in half.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces soba noodles
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shiso, or fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Serving Size: 2 People



 

Preparation Instructions

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the salt and the soba noodles, cook according to the package directions until just el dente.

Stack up the shiso or basil leaves, roll up as a cigar and thinly slice into strips.

Drain and shake the noodles dry. Toss with the shiso, sesame seeds and sesame oil.
