The Food
Happy Thanksgiving week!
When it comes time to giving thanks, I prefer cooking to show my gratitude. I must not be alone, since an entire holiday is focused on just this idea. I wish I could say thank you to each of you for your support of Lilly’s Table by whipping you up something delicious. I hope instead you and your loved ones find joy in this week’s scrumptious selections of holiday fare.
We all have a classic dish that just has to appear at the table, whether it is creamy, classic Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Herb & Sausage Stuffing, Homemade Green Bean Casserole, Streusel Topped Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry-Ginger Relish or the Turkey itself, the day is only made complete when our favorite dish arrives.
This year, try mixing and matching your favorites with new inspiration. Start the week at your local Farmers Market and take your cues from what is in season in your own neighborhood.
If you are looking for a vegan main dish try the Red Wine Glazed Tempeh. Pair it with a vegan Wild Mushroom Stuffing, Kale & Pomegranate Salad, Harvest Rice Salad, Cauliflower Soup, Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom Gravy.
If you are wanting a seafood twist on this harvest week try the Pecan Tilapia with Cranberry-Cherry Syrah Sauce.
The Lentil Pate with the Almond Herb Crackers are a simple way to start the big meal or to enjoy throughout the week in between. While the Pumpkin Custards with Persimmon Whipped Cream are a decadent breakfast or an enchanting dessert.
The week seems to be almost as much about the actual meal as it is for the interesting use of the leftovers. Torn pieces of turkey are perfect for sandwiches, but also hot Turkey & Cranberry Quesadillas. Breakfast can be a hearty dish of Turkey & Greens Hash with Eggs.
Be sure to save the bones from your turkey for a delightful broth. Blend it into a Cauliflower Soup or simmer leftovers into a Turkey & Pumpkin Soup.
What a great way to celebrate your gratitude through a delicious feast! May the Holiday season be filled with love and tastiness for you.
Cook seasonally. Eat gratefully. Live well,
