The Food
On New Year’s Eve in my family, we traditionally whip out appetizers and party style foods even if it is just a small crowd of us. Dipping into a pot of Fondue is perfectly playful for the last evening of the year as is a big bowl of Butternut Goat Cheese Spread with Fennel Crackers and Ginger Kale Salad. But, I love the fabulous superstitions and traditions to eat your way into a productive new year and recently have been adding these dishes to my first few of the next 365 day cycle.
Starting with beans which symbolize a bowl full of coins. Black-eyed peas and French Lentils do the trick this week to guarantee a year without empty pockets of coins to spend. Blend up extra lentils in to the Lentil Pate for a lunch on the go.
Dark leafy greens represent folded green bills, whether they are simply Wilted Collards or Mascarpone Creamed Greens eating them will keep your wallet packed and you in cash flow.
Pigs root into the ground and push forward to demonstrate a year of progress. Eat up for progress and ‘positive motion forward’ in 2013 with the Spanish Squash Biscuit Sandwiches or a breakfast of Eggs, Ham and Mascarpone Greens or a saute of Sausage perfect for pairing with beans & greens.
Whole Fish symbolizes abundance since they swim in schools. Enjoy the Whole Roasted Trout with Fennel Scalloped Potatoes and Citrus, Avocado, Fennel Salad.
Meanwhile, this week keep your pockets full of the healthy snack breakfast of Granola Drops.
As 2013 begins join us for the 30-day Healthy Body, Healthy Planet challenge to get back on track with nutritious, seasonal eating in the New Year.
Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,
