The Food

Week of March 6, 2011

Today is the birthday of our biggest fan. She was the first to sign up. She regularly calls to tell me what she is making, about to make or loved making. She let’s me know when an ingredient is missing or a measurement seems a bit off – which we welcome if you ever notice an error.

I am dedicating this week to her, as my way of saying endless thanks. I include dishes I think she would enjoy or if I was fortunate to live closer to her, I would cook up myself and serve on fancy plates & darling linens.

Her family is French, so I just had to include a pretty Chard Quiche, Pate & Marmalade Sandwiches, also a favorite of her father’s, and Crepes served simply with lemon & powdered sugar. Crepes are also perfect for the 8th- aka pancake day or Mardi Gras.

She lives in the Pacific Northwest and regularly serves white wine Poached Wild Salmon. Seared Chicken, Herb Butter, French bread and gigantic salads straight out of her garden are also happy on her table and our winter versions appear this week.

Going to high school in Milwaukee meant she loves a good Beer Brat. We pair this week’s dish with cabbage, carrots, apples and skillet potatoes.

Take some time preparing the End of Winter Salad and reap the nutritious benefits of quick & easy salads throughout the rest of the week.

You will also notice, we are obsessed with blood oranges— if you cannot find these crimson jewels indulge in regular oranges that are abundant this time of year.

She also enjoys coffee daily so sneak over to our blog later this week to see our Torte for a Chocolate & Coffee Nut.

Happy Birthday Mom! I love you. Thank you for your inspiration & support… hope you enjoy this week’s menu.

Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,

Chef Lilly
