The Food
Happy Christmas and Chanukah week!
This week’s meal plan is all about the celebratory dishes that mark each holiday. With Chanukah starting on Christmas Eve, I encourage you, Jewish or not, to have a Latke Party at some point soon. There are three latke possibilities: Turnip, Traditional Potato or Sweet Potato Latkes. The toppings make it a bonafide party with Smoked Trout Cream or Lox, Creme Fraiche and Capers representing the savory side. The sweeter possibilities are Applesauce with Sour Cream and Pecan Butter.
If you have extra turnip greens after making the Turnip Fritter Latkes, whip them into a Turnips Greens Dip. It can also be joined with Turnip Chips, Veggies and Crackers, too.
For those celebrating with a feast for Christmas, this Amaretti Ham with Amaretti Squash Gratin is one of my favorites. Pair it with Ginger Turnips + Greens and Mashed Potatoes.
For my vegan friends, the Cranberry Glazed Lentil Nut Loaf with Celery Root Mash + Chestnut Salad is plant based meal with retro flair.
Italian Panettone that is stacked in decorative ways this holiday season in stores is great to transform into dishes as well. The Panettone French Toast with Sweet Orange Sauce makes for a beautiful breakfast. Adding brussels sprouts + bacon makes the Panettone Panzanella a delightful lunch.
Steamy warm bowls of goodness hit the spot as we gather with loved ones. The French Onion Soup with a Gruyere Apple Salad is simple to make, yet has a fancy feel. It makes a weeknight meal a tad elegant or Christmas Eve more comforting. The Bouillabaisse with Saffron Rouille is an even more romantic dish to serve for the night before Christmas.
Finally! In all of your preparations whip this festive Santa Strata together the night before. Bake it up while your sweeties unwrap gifts and then dive into the easiest brunch ever.
May your favorite holiday this coming week be full of love, light and deliciousness that fills you with goodness!
