Week of September 8, 2013

Since most of us are well into back-to-school mode, it is tempting to claim the days have turned to autumn. In reality, we have a couple weeks left of summer we need to squeeze out and love up still.

As I reflect on summer and think of the cooler months ahead, I can’t help but find myself pre-missing fresh fruit. So this week will feature the famous Watermelon Stack. Pair it with Crispy Zucchini Sticks and Herb Yogurt Dressing for a playful meal to share.

Cook excess plums into a beautiful condiment to create two meals: the Asian Plum Sliders and the Mu Shu Wraps with the Asian Plum Sauce.

Figs are a fruit rarely seen out of season, therefore making it especially important to gobble up whenever abundant. This Fig Salad makes any meal elegant but is especially lovely alongside my sister’s favorite dish of Fish Almandine with Fennel Scallop Potatoes. Extra Fig Salad can make lunch time extraordinary with a small container of Mushroom & Chicken Pate to go.

Before putting the grill away, be sure to try this Grilled Caesar Salad with Fire & Ice Cherry Tomatoes and my childhood fave Zucchini Soup. Once the Homemade Garlic Croutons and the dressing are made, whipping up a cool Caesar Salad for lunch is easy too.

End of the season Almond Kissed Peaches are perfect for topping simple Pancakes. and Summer Egg Sandwiches and Kale Date Smoothies work well for easy breakfasts throughout the week.
