The Food
I love December! There are so many celebrations to kick off the winter season. One that I have had my eye on especially after becoming a Mama is Hannukah. Maybe because it is all about the lights (I love a bit of sparkle + candle bling!) or maybe because it indulges a little extra oil in the meal (hello latkes!), but I love sharing a tradition with my family that isn’t my own as we discover new stories together.
Enjoy a Latke party with all sorts of possibilities. Shredded potatoes are standard, but Turnip Fritters or Sweet Potato Latkes are always welcome. (It is all about the oil, right!?) Mix + match the toppings with Lox, Creme Fraiche, + Capers, Poor Man’s Caviar, Applesauce, creamy Pecan Butter, and more. BTW, if you have children who aren’t super excited about veggies, the root version latkes are a great way to get them to try them.
The Festival of Lights can be built around an Apricot Roast Chicken and pair it with Sweet Potato Fries and Kale Chips, which are baked up in oil for just a touch of the fried element.
Since party season is well underway, here are a few of my favorite appetizer style meals that travel nicely, including Roasted Veggies + Dip and Hazelnut Squash Dip with Fennel Crackers.
Seasonal salads make a splash as well with the Chopped Kale + Pomegranate Salad, Maple Squash Salad and leftovers of the chicken are perfect in the Apricot-Pistachio Chicken Salad.
Warm up your week with a bowl of Golden Beet Soup, too. A lovely pairing with the Maple Squash Salad.
Finally, start your morning with these Sage + Egg Bakes with Greens and Toast.
May the start of your holiday season be bright and sparkly!
