The Food

Week of December 27, 2015

Happy New Years Week! I am pretty crazy about this time of year. I don’t always set a specific New Years Resolution but I do a lot of reflecting, renewing and realigning with all the goodness.

I am also particularly charmed by the superstitious foods that start the year off and this is also the week that I indulge in all sorts of party style foods.

A classic American tradition for New Years are the Black-eyed Peas and Collards. The idea being that the beans represent coins and the greens represent dollars. So, if you are hoping for a prosperous year this is the dish for you.

For even more beans, this Harvest Lentil Salad will bring comfort and lots of coins for a simple lunch. Especially when paired with the Creamy Ginger Kale Salad.

Meanwhile, enjoy an Amaretti Crusted Ham if you want to dig forward into your life just as a pig does, embracing the challenges of 2016.

Take extras of the ham to tuck into the Spanish Squash Biscuit Sandwiches. The ham is also great for breakfast with Mascarpone Greens and Eggs.

The Amaretti Cookies that crust the ham can also become the base to the Amaretti Squash Gratin, serve it as a side dish to the ham or with this Roasted Garlic + Mizuna Salad as a main meal.

For a party dish that brings community together during the new years celebration, dip into a pot of golden Fondue with Gruyere Apple Salad.

The Chinese word for fish is similar to abundance making it a great dish to promote a bountiful year with a Whole Roasted Fish, Fennel Scalloped Potatoes and Citrus Avocado Fennel Salad.

For an alluring, irresistible 2016, make a huge batch of the Seeduction Granola and form it into these Granola Drops maybe to celebrate the dropping of that Big Apple? What a way to celebrate!

I look forward to sharing this upcoming year with you! May it be bright, abundant, prosperous, seeductive, and delightful for each of us!

Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,

Chef Lilly
