The Food

Week of December 20, 2015

Merry Christmas my dear friends! May your week be beautiful and bright with meals that allow you delicious time with family and friends.

The meals this week circle around a few lovely main dishes. Roast Duck offers a special dish for the holidays. Serve it with a Star Anise Cranberry Sauce and a few of the sides from this week including the Ginger Turnips + Greens and Mustard Cream Brussels Sprouts.

For less meat at your holiday table, try the Lentil Nut Loaf with Smoky Cranberry Sauce or the Simple Cauliflower Roast with the Caramelized Lemon + Pistachios.

These festive sides including the Celery Root Mash, Chestnut + Clementine Salad, Caramelized Apple Acorn Squash and simple Lemon Brussels Sprouts work with any of these main dishes.

Extras of the Star Anise Cranberry Sauce make for a beautiful Asian dish of Cranberry Bok Choy + Tofu Stir Fry with Sesame Soba Noodles.

Some also celebrate this time of year with glorious seafood. My favorite way to highlight a medley of the sea is with the shimmering broth in the Bouillabaisse with Saffron Rouille. Serve it with a Citrus Avocado Salad and crusty French Bread to dip up more of that glistening broth.

For holiday lunches, we like to pick at cheeses and veggies, crackers such as these Fennel Crackers and dips such as the Lentil Pate. The Panettone Panzanella is also a lovely holiday salad that uses the boxes of cakey-bread that you see everywhere for something a bit more savory.

Panettone is also absolutely divine as French Toast especially with the Sweet Orange Sauce and Whipped Yogurt Cream.

The Santa Strata is one of my favorite ways to celebrate as it can be made on Christmas Eve and it bakes up the next day as you sip on your favorite hot beverages while peeking into stockings.

May this week be full of magic, love, scrumptious food and gifts for everyone who needs something extra special!

Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,

Chef Lilly
