The Food
Bundled up in a tasty blanket is one of the simplest ways to prepare and eat food. While I haven’t proven it, doesn’t every culture seem to have some sort of starchy flat bread, pancake or tortilla-like food that is used to wrap and easily enjoy a variety of delights? This week is dedicated to all of the wrapped up possibilities.
Tacos always come to mind first with its endless possibilities to mix and match from gorgeous Grilled Vegetables to Grilled Steak thinly sliced. Living close to the Mexican border I can harvest nopales in my yard. If you are similarly fortunate, try these Nopales & Summer Squash Tacos. Next, dive under the sea with tender Fish Tacos. Try tacos for breakfast, too by sliding an egg easily into a corn tortilla. Any of these folded delights would welcome the Apricot Chili Cream, fresh Pico de Gallo or a side of Black Beans. Come up with your favorite combinations of fillings and toppings to start your own Taco Party!
Next take a mini trip to the Mediterranean, blend up some Hummus to tuck into a Greek Wrap or take a break from the wrapping and bake up some Falafels with Tahini Sauce & Tzatiki Sauce and a big bowl of Greek Salad. Of course, I would certainly be tempted to throw some of that in a pita and wrap it up.
The Mu Shu Veggie Wrap with homemade Asian Plum Sauce is a great way to wrap up Chinese flavors and veggies.
The Blackberry Barbeque Sauce Grilled Steak with Apricot Celery Salad and Grilled Potato Salad are not necessarily for wrapping, but I would be so excited to hear if you chop, slice and tuck them in a flatbread of sorts.
For lunch, a Chipotle BLT Wrap is perfect on the go. If your tomatoes are especially juicy, add them just before eating it.
Finally, my favorite pancake of all time is the silky French crepe. Toss in whatever seasonal fruit you can find such as the Almond Kissed Peaches and top with the Whipped Yogurt Cream.
And that’s a wrap!
Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,
