The Food

Week of December 22, 2013

Here it is! The week where sugarplums will dance, reindeers prance and that jolly guy will thrill little ones like my daughter with morning surprises.

In my home, the tradition we will never escape is spending the entire Holiday dining and delighting in the delicious food we are blessed to eat. This starts on Christmas Eve and continues throughout the big day.

The night prior you may find us enjoying seafood such as the elegant Salmon Wellington with Roasted Pear & Beet Salad and Marsala Acorn Squash. Alternatively, we dip bread and veggies into a classic Fondue. Which is also a great idea for any upcoming New Years Eve parties.

We brunch on Panettone French Toast with Sweet Orange Sauce and/or a Broccoli Strata. I love making the strata the night prior as if Santa brought it and then we toss it in the oven giving me an opportunity to simply enjoy my morning with very few kitchen chores.

Then we may lunch on the hearty Panettone Panzanella which could also work as a tasty side dish later in the day. We also enjoy snacking on Turnip Greens Dip with Turnip Chips, Garlic Crackers and veggies. These all work wonderfully the following week for New Years too.

For a beautiful Christmas dinner, the Roast Duck with Star Anise Cranberry Sauce, Mustard Cream Brussels Sprouts and Ginger Turnips & Greens is a favorite. Leftover sauce makes an easy, Star Anise Cranberry Bok Choy Stir Fry.

At some point, during this holiday week we relax with a homemade Caramelized Onion & Broccoli Pizza with Salad.

What are the traditions and foods you cherish? Share them with us on Facebook or Twitter and we will hopefully intertwine them into the new year.

Merry blessed days to you as the winter season unfolds before us.

Cook seasonally. Eat consciously. Live well,

Chef Lilly
